Tuesday at a high school in North Nashua, N.H., United States President Obama lashed out one more targeted blow to the City of Las Vegas, Nevada. This follows his same tone and definite pointing of the finger toward The Entertainment Capital of the World.
According to Associated Press Writer, Oskar Garcia, Obama stated, "When times are tough, you tighten your belts. You don't go buying a boat when you can barely pay your mortgage," . You don't blow a bunch of cash on Vegas when you're trying to save for college. You prioritize. You make tough choices."
In the Silver State, tempers rose up quickly as Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman fired back with his disapproval of the President specifically targeting Las Vegas. Goodman assured everyone that he would do all he could to see Obama got the boot from office next time around. And the Mayor even stated that he would no longer welcome the President when and if Mr. Obama visits.

Nope. Neither of those trademark lines heard by millions of Donnie and Marie fans from their TV variety show describes Ms. Osmond's recent appearance at a "meet and greet" book signing in Vegas. Marie's overall look was a cross between a 60s teen Disney star ala Frankie Avalon girlfriend and a glamour model at a Hollywood shoot. You better add just a pinch of Hannah Montana cuteness to get the whole image. The good news is probably no one could pull this off better than the one and only Marie Osmond.
ABC's "Dancing With The Stars" reconnected America's love reunion with the Teen Queen who came into homes each week many years ago on the tube alongside her Teen Idol brother. In Different Local Print Media You Will See Ads Soliciting People To Come In To Be Interviewed For A Movie Being Shot In Vegas. A Friend Of Mine Told Me About A Casting Call For A Movie Called "The Stripper" To Be Held At The Rainbow Grill Across From The Hard Rock Hotel. With Camera And Tape Recorder In Hand I Went In Hopes Of Bringing An Interesting Story For VEGAS WATCHDOG Readers About People Who Live In Vegas Being In The Movies. The Ad For The Cattle Call Plainly Stated Not To Bring Costumes And Stuff Since It Was To Be More Like A Casual Meet N' Greet. When I Arrived I Was Told The Crew Was Out In The Patio Section. They Had About 30 People There And The First Thing I Saw Was A Photo Screen Backdrop And A Guy Taking Pictures With His Computer. Then I Wanted To See How The Process Worked. So I Requested A Form That Potential Cast Members Fill Out. The Lady Informed Me That I Needed To Go Line Up For The Guy To Take My Picture For Their Files. I Told Her That I Was Informed That Those Who Attended Were Not To Bring Promo Material Or Costumes. And I Let Her Know That I Could Certainly Go Home And Bring Back A Portfolio Of Headshots And Resume Materials. Now This Was When I First Heard The Shoe Hit The Ground. Without Any Negotiations I Was Again Directed Toward The Computer Photo Guy Where She Said Each Photo Is Only $15.00? Okay...Then It Hit Me Why They Had Emphasized Not Bringing Anything With You. I Had Read That This Was The Film Maker's First Full Length Feature As He Was An Independent. So How Many HeadShots Would I Need? I Did Not Ask Because I Realized That Any Photographer Worth His Salt Would Need At Least Three If Not Six Or More Pictures For A Small Portfolio. Ahhhhhh...So What Was Advertised As A Casting Call Basically Was A Bait And Switch Carnival Game Reminding Me Of The Old "Guess Your Age And Weight" Sandbagger At Fairs. Why Not Just Advertise That If You Want To Be Considered For Our Film, Then Please Note That You Will Have To Have OUR PHOTOGRAPHER Take Your Pictures At $15.00 Each. My Question To You Is This...?? If This Is How They Deal With People At The Initial "So-Called" Casting Day, Imagine What Kind Of Things Could Be Expected From Those Who Agree To Show Up On The Day The Filming Starts. I Can Hear It Now..."Well, We Are Ready To Begin Shooting The First Scene. If You Are Scheduled To Be In It, Then We Will Need You To Purchase The Film We Will Be Using To Do Your Scenes...."...Or Some Type Senario Like That. So BEWARE When You Do See One Of These CASTING CALLS Advertised And Be Prepared To Ask For All The Details Up Front On The Phone Before You Trek Across Town To Be Intimidated For Cash Just To Get Possibly A Bogus Interview For A Film That Has Been Announced As A Future Project In Our Valley. Back In The 70s and 80s In Los Angeles, This Type Of Stuff Was Rampant For Those Who Came Seeking Their Big Break. Hopefuls Were Told They Had To Sign Up With A Representative Who Would Take A Couple Of Polaroids And Put The "Wanna-Be-Actor" In Their Files For All The Big Studio Casting Directors To See. And In The Late 70s, About The Bottom Price For That Was About $50.00 At Each Different Agency You Signed Up For. I Imagine All Those Polaroids Are Still All Nicely Filed Away In L.A. Because You Can Be Sure That Is As Close To Getting In A Movie Those Poor "Wanna-Be-Actors" Got To Be In A Flick. So Now You Have Been Warned By The VEGAS WATCHDOG So That You Will Not Be Taken For A Ride. We Are Always Looking Out For You...It's A Tough Job. But Somebody's Got To Do It!

Open the door and say, "Where is FRANKY PAZ?" Also, we want to give special kudos to Brent and Issac for their help! A few days ago in between doing interviews at the Paris Hotel at the International Fair Association Expo and trying to get down to the Mirage to pick up a press kit for an upcoming show for National Rodeo Fans, I just happened to pass in front of the Caesars Palace stage setup right on the Strip Sidewalk. Wow! There was a big crowd gathered all with their focus on the lighted stage full of Roman soldiers and Cleopatra look-a-likes standing next to four costumed Christmas Carolers. Then after a brief announcement from a "talking suit", out popped Wayne Newton? On the street in Vegas? Yes, Mr. Las Vegas was there to officially kickoff the Caesars Christmas Festivities. Fresh from ABC's "Dancing With The Stars" Newton introduced another "talking suit" who was there to plug in the lights to the tree and announce to the world that the 2008 Caesars Christmas season had begun. Okay. It was quick and with a few hoiday songs, it was over. I could not help but ponder that here in what everyone deems as "Sin City" the Chief Exec of one of the world's most well known resorts could use that "C" word and not have to worry about the Ninth Circuit Court padlocking Caesars because the CEO Rep said "Christmas". What's next? Will the hotel be allowed to display an American flag on a pole and make change in the casino with paper bearing "In God We Trust" printed on it? You bet! In the Heartland of the USA and in certain Metro areas, the mention of the name of the holiday is forbidden. But not in good ole Vegas....no phony saints here. That is one thing about this city that I have always liked. You do not have to draw a resident here a picture about his or her behavior. They know they are making a choice to do right or wrong. And be prepared to hear what people think and believe clearly proclaimed in public. So in Vegas you can say Merry Christmas without being arrested or criticized. Well, except at WalMart, where the "C" word has been replaced with "Happy Holidays". But that decision was made by Execs in Arkansas, not here. And for his seasonal reward for being there, poor Wayne later that night was thrown from the horse he was riding on stage at the beginning of his Flamingo Hotel Holiday Show....oh, excuse me...Christmas show. Perhaps it was a foreign-born horse who had issues with someone with a Native American heritage. Well, it is America, you know. Don't forget to say "Merry Christmas" to as many people as you can this year. You never know when we will only be celebrating "Happy Holidays" in Vegas! CLICK HERE
